The Choice

Choices don’t always come in monochrome
With an absoluteness of black or white
like a game of chess; predictable
Where you knew before you played
Which move meant death!
Life squares are myriad and coloured
And choices, your poison
Like the ones that leave you breathless
Between what you love
And what you love more
Yet you play the queens gambit
Fiercely attacking a distant hand
that might be waiting to serve you
letting your wilder side play
In the wake of a jarring survival
A lifetime’s learning packed in a decisive second
And you make an irreversible move
While you might simply wait and watch
and learn to unlearn!
